Have a love/hate relationship with fast food? You might feel even more excited (or more livid) about Moschino’s new take on fast fashion. After Jeremy Scott showed his first collection for the Italian brand last week, several key pieces—including his McDonald’s-inspired purses, a cashmere/wool blend sweater with golden arches, and the famous “I don’t speak Italian but I speak Moschino” tees from his runway finale—hit the Moschino website today. But just because they’re alreadyup for grabs doesn’t mean you can have them: The red-and-yellow backpack is already sold out. Meanwhile Anna Dello Russo and Rita Ora have already snagged the coveted red-and-yellow quilted handbags (which go for $1,265), because of course.
Still left (for now): the red t-shirt that blares “Moschino: Over 12 Million Served” ($350) and the iPhone French fry cover ($85). But if you want to supersize your order with those killer ketchup-colored heels, you’re out of luck: so far, no footwear from the runway has hit Moschino’s website. While we wait…is anyone else craving a Happy Meal?

Nothing is sweeter than an invitation that comes with a bar of chocolate. Wrapped in a very blatant resemblance to the famous Hershey’s chocolate bar, the invitation to the first Jeremy Scott for Moschino collection was a prelude to what I saw at the show held on February 20, 2014, during Milan Fashion Week.
Inspired by fast food, packaged snacks, and the 80s, the collection referenced pop culture but remained true to the brand’s iconic style ‒ colorful, cheeky and a little outlandish.
Amusing McDonald’s inspired looks opened the show. These were accompanied with accessories that looked like wrappers for french fries, burgers and softdrinks from the fast food chain. One model came out carrying a classic brown plastic serving tray with a handbag on it. McDonald’s logo was modified to have the same appearance of the Italian luxury fashion house.
Bold reds and golds were just one vivid pairing of contrasts used on the fun and loud garments; white with black, gold matched with black, yellow and black, and white with red were other arrangements. Soft powder blue, a reference to faded denim, was accentuated with gold and black accessories and trimmings. Witty taglines that read “ FUR REAL”, “DRINK MOSCHINO” and “CASH COW” also appeared on some pieces.
The range also included a few classic dress suits, leather jackets, trench coats and the addition of fur, most noticeably in red and yellow mink bathrobe. Clever and sassy details abounded on skirts and pants that also showed snippets of lingerie ‒ yes, more no-pants on the runway.
The show ended with subtle screwed up and twisted snack package creations passing as haute couture gowns. Model Lindsey Wixton closed the show in a bridal gown bearing a potpourri of printed nutritional facts. Quite bizarre but nonetheless was fun.
Jeremy Scott’s first collection for Moschino has taken the celebrated label on a little detour into fantasyland. Like some sort of dream in Wonderland, the designs are big, brassy and sexy; and while Alice did not make an appearance, Spongebob’s twisted brother did. And the viewers including front row artists Katy Perry and Rita Ora seemed pleased.
